Keeping Clownfish (Amphiprion melanopus) in an Aquarium

Clownfish, specifically Amphiprion melanopus, are a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts because of their vibrant colors and playful personalities. These fish can thrive in captivity if provided with the right environment, which includes:

• A tank size of at least 20 gallons
• A temperature range of 75-82°F
• A salinity level of 1.020-1.025
• Live rock and sand as a substrate
• Anemones or other suitable hiding spots
• A varied diet consisting of pelleted, frozen, and live foods

One of the coolest things about the Amphiprion melanopus is its ability to change genders. All clownfish are born male, but as they mature, the dominant fish will develop into a female. If the female dies, the next in line male will turn into a female and take its place.
